Rigging for
Entertainment
4 day training course
Ard Soilse developed this rigging
course as an internal training programme to
meet its obligation as an employer to ensure the health and safety
of its
employees. It is one of a number of health and safety related
initiatives that
the company kicked off approximately 4 years ago.
Both Joe Betts who developed the course content, and Jay Kavanagh
who
participated along with other employees in its pilot, have gone on
to gain the
PLASA National Rigging Certificate Level 2. Joe is completing his
Level 3 qualification on 26th of March

international sources for examples of best practice, including:-

• BS 7906 Use of lifting equipment for performance, broadcast and
similar applications

What makes a rigger competant?
As in any profession, you must prove your knowledge and experience
to be considered competant.
A good way of doing this is to attend training courses, work along
side other riggers and take an assessment.
What asessment options are there?
Currently there is only one qualification in rigging that is
recognised and accredited, this is the PLASA National Rigging
Certificate scheme, with levels 2 and 3 currently open for
assessment.
(Level 1 is trainee rigger and will be available soon, Level 4 is
Rigging manager and will not be available for atleast another 2
years)
